Dr Vikesh P. Gajjar is an orthopaedic surgeon and knee specialist. He established PE Knees in 2013 which is the only dedicated knee practice in the Eastern Cape. The PE Knees team consists of orthopaedic surgeons, a nursing sister, administrative staff, and affiliated healthcare professionals who work together to ensure the seamless coordination of patient care.
Comprehensive Knee Care
PE Knees offers patients comprehensive management of all knee-related conditions including total and partial knee replacements, revision knee replacements, complex knee injuries, and robotic surgery. As a premier orthopaedic practice, PE Knees attracts patients from across South Africa and beyond. Patients benefit from an experienced team, surgical expertise, and support with peri-operative arrangements.
The practice is located at Netcare Greenacres Hospital in Port Elizabeth. The hospital has a radiology (X-ray) department and is well-equipped for major surgical procedures. Minor operations may be performed at surrounding day hospitals.
Dr Christopher J.F. Arkell joined PE Knees in 2023, allowing the practice to expand its scope. In addition to knee surgery, Dr Arkell has a keen interest in minimally invasive hip replacements and offers general orthopaedics.
Patient Support
Pre-operative Clinic
The PE Knees pre-operative clinic is a service offered to patients undergoing major procedures. It is run by Sr Melissa Davids and provides patients with information about what to expect, do’s and don’ts, and post-operative care. Patients are advised to bring a caregiver to this appointment.
Anaesthetic Risk Assessments
Patients undergoing major procedures may be offered an appointment with Dr Hanlie Potgieter, an anaesthetist affiliated with PE Knees. Dr Potgieter counsels patients regarding risks associated with anaesthesia and addresses medical issues prior to surgery. This service is offered at the practice in Greenacres Hospital and is invaluable for patients deemed to be high risk.
Wound Clinic
Sr Melissa Davids runs a post-operative clinic for wound checks and management of wound issues. This service is run in conjunction with Drs Gajjar and Arkell.
